Norway and France meet in the Group I decider at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with a place in the round of 32 on the line in a clash that pits Erling Haaland's resurgent Scandinavians against Kylian Mbappé's star-studded two-time world champions.

France enter the fixture as the number-one ranked team in the world by FIFA, led by captain Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid and Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé of PSG. Didier Deschamps' side are widely regarded as one of the tournament favourites, having sailed through their UEFA qualifying group and arrived in North America with one of the most talented squads of any nation.

Norway, making their first World Cup appearance since 1998 and only their fourth all-time, bring genuine excitement to this fixture. Striker Erling Haaland of Manchester City is the undisputed focal point of the Norwegian attack, appearing at a World Cup for the first time in his career, with Martin Ødegaard of Arsenal directing play in midfield. Norway won their UEFA qualifying group and arrive with the confidence of a team that caused genuine upsets along the way, including a stunning 4:1 win in Italy.

March 2026 brought a 2:1 defeat in Amsterdam against the Netherlands, though Norway recovered immediately with a goalless draw against Switzerland in the same international window. On 1 June 2026, a 3:1 victory over Sweden provided the ideal send-off before the tournament.

The sole blemish was a 2:2 draw in Iceland in October 2025.
