Jordan vs Argentina - Match Preview

This is a genuinely historic occasion: Jordan and Argentina have never met before in any competitive or friendly international fixture, and Jordan is playing in its first-ever FIFA World Cup.

Argentina arrive in Dallas as reigning world champions, having lifted the trophy in Qatar in 2022. Ranked 3rd in the FIFA standings, the Albiceleste carry one of the most decorated squads in the tournament, anchored by Lionel Messi, appearing at his sixth World Cup. For Argentina, this final group fixture represents the opportunity to confirm top position in Group J and set up a favourable knockout-round path against the runner-up of Group H.

Jordan qualified for their maiden World Cup tournament as runners-up in Group B of the AFC third-round qualifiers in June 2025. Ranked 66th in the world - 63 places below Argentina - the Nashama face their stiffest examination in this historic debut. That said, Jordan's players have already made history simply by reaching this stage, and the group finale gives them the chance to sign off with something memorable in front of a global audience.

Jordan - Recent Form

Jordan enter the World Cup's final group round after a mixed warm-up period: 1 win, 2 draws, and 2 defeats across their last 5 matches, with 8 goals scored and 12 conceded.

The most alarming result in Jordan's recent run was a 1-4 defeat to Switzerland on 31 May 2026, in which they conceded 3 goals before half-time. On the positive side, the Nashama showed attacking intent in back-to-back home friendlies: a 2-2 draw with Nigeria on 31 March and a 2-2 draw with Costa Rica on 27 March demonstrated that Jordan can create and convert chances, even if keeping clean sheets remains a challenge.

In the FIFA Arab Cup in December 2025, Jordan lost 2-3 to Morocco despite scoring twice - a recurring theme of an attack capable of threatening but a defence liable to being breached. The one clean victory in this spell was a disciplined 1-0 away win over Saudi Arabia on 15 December 2025, a result that showed Jordan's ability to grind out a result when defensively organised.

Argentina - Recent Form

Argentina arrive at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in commanding form: 3 wins from their last 3 matches with available scores, scoring 9 goals and conceding only 1.

The highlight of Argentina's recent run was a 5-0 thrashing of Zambia on 1 April 2026, a result that underlined the clinical edge running through Lionel Scaloni's squad, with the lead already at 2-0 at half-time. That performance followed a 2-1 win over Mauritania on 27 March 2026 and a composed 2-0 victory away to Angola on 14 November 2025 - three matches, three wins, a combined score of 9-1.

Lionel Messi enters this World Cup with his playing time at Inter Miami carefully managed, arriving in peak condition for the tournament. Alongside him, Julián Álvarez and Alexis Mac Allister provide the Albiceleste with depth, creativity, and finishing - a combination that makes Argentina one of the competition's most feared attacking forces heading into the group finale.
